President
Akiko Domoto is President of the Japan Women’s Network for Disaster Risk Reduction.

She is a former Member of the House of Councillors (1989-2001) and Former Governor of Chiba Prefecture (2001-2009).  Prior to entering politics, she was a producer, director, and journalist, Tokyo Broadcasting System, and received various awards for “The Baby Hotel,” a documentary series about unlicensed daycare centers in Japan.

She was Vice President/East Asia Regional Councillor, IUCN in 1997, and President of GLOBE Japan (1993-1999) and of GLOBE International in 1999. She is the recipient of various awards, including UNEP's 25 Women Leaders in Action in 1997, and the Prime Minister’s Commendation for Efforts toward the Formation of a Gender-equal Society in 2012. She is a Member, National Committee for UN 10 Years of Biodiversity (Ministry of the Environment) President of the Women and Health Network Japan, and Board Member of the Biodiversity Network Japan.
